"the dell is for everyone, rich or poor. keep the dell
for everyone to enjoy as i have since i was a kid."
"The dell is one of the only things left that is good
and unique about Hitchin, by doing this project, it will completly
ruin Hitchin, make it ugly, and scare people away! Theres
soo many people against it anyway, no one will go. "
oh no this is sad...
yet more privatisation of public space
"It would
be wonderful to spend the money on something that all the
young of Hitchin could vote on. There should be no excuslive
actitity built at the Dell. With all the problems the young
have these days, they should have a say in what, if anything,
they want."
"no matter
how big the fense is and no matter how many spikes it has
people will allways be able to got over them "
[Eds note - personaly I think it is possible to build the
kind of fence that could keep people out .... it would involve
huge spikes and razowire and be the ugliest thing you could
possibly imagine]
"Warning...the
following is very negative and is from a grumpy old woman...you
have been warned....
Rediculous, extravigant, elitest idea. This town needs something
that includes the young and young families who are struggling.
To put in place such an expensive activity makes me sick!
Just imagine what will happen at the weekends when drunken
teenagers break in...and they will...there will be a terrible
accident.
sorry about that..."
i hate the idea
of high ropes course. total n utter bollox! leave the dell
as it is, jumps and all. we built it to what it is today cant
be sacrificed for some expensive climbing bull%$£"!!
i like riding the dell!
I feel quite torn about this proposal but on balance find
it objectionable that such a large piece of public land may
be taken out of public use and semi privatised. Alternative
location could be Butt's Close (near Archers) or Ransom's
Rec
"Its is a
powerful place. Sacred n magical for us all. And a beautiful
spot for moon & star gazin. Who are they to take that
away from us? And then there is the nature that lives within,
who are they to destroy there home?"
The Dell is actually well known, it is a beauty spot and
natural green space, something many towns can no longer boast
of and then they moan about it for years, don't let Hitchin
join them!
While the proposed changes sound like fun, they will only
be so for a select few. The Dell is a place to walk the dog,
take the children, hold open air theatre and really just for
all ages to enjoy. I thought that the Dell was left in Trust
to the people of Hitchin? We have though witnessed in the
past with the Caldicott Centre that this form of Trust can
be worth little to those it was intended to help. The wires
sound like fun but the Dell is not where we would want to
see this happen.
"Yeah that's
the thing - it sounds like a good idea and high ropes ARE
fun and saying we don't want em in Hitchin would be pretty
spoilsporty. That said, kids ARE going to find a way to break
in or smash it up, and it's a huge bit of Hitchin's rich tapestry
being dedicated to something that could easily be set up somewhere
else."
"Find somewhere
else to put it. End of."
I strongly believe that any sign of modern developments in
the dell would completely destroy the beauty and seclusion
of the dell. I use the dell almost daily for dog walks and
relaxing and the idea of any fences, lights, cameras, climbing
apparatus, etc makes me feel sad that we will be loosing this
natural space. Hitchin needs more open green areas, not less!
There's a perfect
space at the back of the swimming pool, between Archers Gym
and Butts close, already fenced, easy parking and alongside
other physical exercise fascilities.
Their clients could use the swim centre car park and the changing
room and showers in Archers Gym.
